History
Crossroads Crisis Center originated in 1975 as an outgrowth of the Allen County Rape Hot line. Responding to the needs of rape victims in the Lima/Allen County area, three local organizations, the Allen County Ministerial Association, the National Organization for Women and the YWCA established an all volunteer hot line. In 1977, because of an increasing number of domestic violence calls, the hot line expanded its services to include battered women. In 1979, it became evident that a shelter for battered women and children was needed in Allen County. A cooperative agreement made it possible for the volunteer hot line and shelter for female survivors of domestic violence and their children to operate together. In 1980, Crossroads became the first safe, confidential emergency shelter in Allen County, the forth in the State of Ohio, and the seventeenth in the nation. On February 10, 1988, services were expanded to include Hardin County.
